One of the first woman PGE graduates at TBS Education !

09 May 2023 Portraits / Podcasts

Today, we invite you to meet Marie-Claude AUGIER, one of the first woman graduates of the Grande Ecole Program (PGE) of TBS Education.

In 1965, the school was called Sup de Co Toulouse and was located on Rue de la Dalbade, in the heart of the pink city. That was the year Marie-Claude graduated. In her graduating class, there were only five women among a hundred students. Marie-Claude was fortunate to have been able to benefit from an excellent higher education.

"To enter the school, there were two prerequisites: to have a high school diploma and to pass the competitive exam. Business studies were mostly reserved for boys. I was lucky enough to have access to it and I spent three wonderful years there. The girls in our class were noticed and above all remarkable! We learned foreign trade and accounting in an exceptional setting. There was closeness, respect and admiration between the teachers and the students because of the small size of the classes."

Anecdotes about her student experience, our Alumni has plenty:

"The facility was splendid. In the basement was the cellar. A friendly place that we had rehabilitated. We used to get together with other students to party. I didn't drink. But beware of excess, to get home at the end of the evening, you had to be able to climb the stairs !"

"I also remember the hazing that was reserved for us when we were admitted to the school. We were gathered in the consular hall, sitting on the floor. We were all dressed in sailor suits. Nothing too bad, but memories that stick in your mind."

"Thinking about those moments that wrote the history of the school, here is one last one. Every year a ball was organized in the school yard. This festive event was accompanied by a parade through the streets of Toulouse. All the students participated. Students from the medical school, the law school, the engineers, everyone was there! Toulouse was already one of the best student cities !"

Marie-Claude has always been very involved in the life of her school, both during her studies and after her graduation. Elected to the student office (BDE), she created the school's women's volleyball team.

"We all knew each other and a good atmosphere permeated the walls of Sup de Co. The boys played rugby, but it was not a sport for girls. So I created the volleyball team. I was so proud the day we beat the top team in the championship, namely the medical school team !"

The year 1987 marks the history of the school: Sup de Co becomes ESC Toulouse and moves to 20 Boulevard Lascrosses. It was also the year that the alumni association, which would become TBS Alumni a few years later, was created to meet a growing need: to unite graduates around a network of excellence.

"I remember the day of the school's inauguration very well. It was raining hard, and I didn't want to arrive soaked. I got out of the car that was dropping me off and quickly made my way to the porch. In my haste, I bumped into the Deputy Director of Crédit Lyonnais. In the course of the conversation, I obtained interesting rates to invest in a building next to the school, which was then a ZAC. This was the birth of ATALE.

ATALE is the association toulousaine of Student Housing Assistance. The ZAC acquired by Marie-Claude was transformed into a residence of 120 apartments with attractive rents, exclusively reserved for students. For many years, students from the ESC but also from other universities in Toulouse will live in these apartments of the ATALE residence.

In 2023, the residence was sold. ATALE still exists and has seven members committed to the students.

Today, the association financially supports many projects:

- Help for the creation of companies: Slidocks, Bomolet

- Assistance to sports teams: participation in travel expenses, purchase of equipment, financing of internships...

- Support for student projects: Cycle for Water, Sailing Team

Marie-Claude AUGIER has never ceased her commitment to her school and its students, but she has not forgotten her career.
She has been General Manager of the Clinique du Château, General Manager of a rest and convalescent home, and General Manager of a retirement home. She also contributed to the digitalization project of the Clinique du Parc. Furthermore, she has also been very involved in the Chamber of Commerce for Education.

And if this determined, committed and passionate woman were to give you one piece of advice, what would it be?

"We must take the trouble to seize the opportunities that come our way, everyone has the ability to succeed, so don't hesitate. The most important thing is to take the trouble, to stay together to raise each other up, to set an example for future generations."
