The French leader in private sales of DIY items records increased activity during confinement

Based in the Union suburb of Toulouse, BricoPrivé.com, has achieved unanimity during the confinement period, with an increase in activity of between 60% and 70% during the last fortnight in March, then close to double or triple in April.

"But there is no cause for triumphalism yet. We conducted a survey to analyze the reasons behind this activity increase. Clearly, at 55%, people are doing more DIY and starting new projects because they have the time", explains Julien Boué (TBS 2004), President and Co-founder of BricoPrivé, beside Marc Leverger, (TBS 1994) Managing Director.

"In addition, internet purchases are on a general increase with shops closed. So we recorded approximately 40% new customers in April. Nevertheless, we remain cautious. Is this upsurge in DIY simply because projects that were planned for this summer have been brought forward?" he wonders.

The sales revenue target of 200 million euros in 2021 on track

For 2020, the group had projected cautious stability of the activity of BricoPrivé.com in line with their business model. In May 2019, the private sales platform began offering DIY tools on a permanent basis in addition to items on promotion. This reconfiguration required a 3-millions euro investment.

«Our customers can now get access to the essentials of each brand. At the same time, we have strengthened our relationship with our suppliers by providing them with sales opportunities for their flagship range» explains Marc Leverger.

Whatever 2020 has in store as regards activity, the group is upholding its ultimate sales revenue target of 200 milion euros in 2021. Acquisition operations are not excluded.

The move from Union suburb to new premises in the Cité (for start-ups) which will have 3 times the surface area (2500m2) has been postponed until January 2021 due to the Covid-19 crisis.
